Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan believes that the rise of AI assistants will lead to a dramatic AI workweek reduction. Speaking at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference, Yuan explained how advances in digital avatars and intelligent automation could soon cut the standard five-day workweek to just three or four days.
At the event, Yuan showcased how Zoom’s AI features, including a “digital twin” avatar that can attend calls on behalf of users, may redefine productivity. The executive even used his AI avatar during a recent investor earnings call, highlighting what he called “the boundaries of communication.”
Zoom’s strategic focus has become unambiguous: “AI, AI, and AI,” Yuan said, describing multi-hour internal meetings centered on artificial intelligence. The company sees automation not just as an enhancement, but as a core driver for reshaping how people collaborate.
Digital Twins and the New Collaboration Model
Yuan’s vision goes beyond video conferencing. He described a scenario where AI companions negotiate contracts or collaborate on planning sessions before human involvement. In this model, “digital twins” could handle early discussions, review materials, and summarize key decisions—leaving executives to finalize outcomes instead of spending hours in meetings.
He also suggested AI will soon triage communications like email, identify high-priority messages, and respond autonomously. This shift could help workers focus on strategy and creativity rather than repetitive administrative tasks.
Zoom’s AI Integration Across Its Suite
The company is extending AI across its broader suite of solutions, such as online whiteboards and collaborative documents. Yuan noted that today, users still need to manually focus on these products to complete their work. Over time, AI integration will reduce that burden by automating context switching and repetitive actions.
“By doing that, we do not need to work five days a week anymore,” Yuan said. “Five years out, three days or four days [a week]. That’s a goal.”
